This is so gnarly try to follow, I first learned about this trick from a Ted Talk and realized I used to do the same thing learning SX my first year, it goes as, I would go to a new track where id see one of my teammates triple something etc, id be terrified, but why? I know I have the skill and I'm on the same equipment. It was just the decision holding me back so id say 3-2-1 GO and my brain would always figure it out

There is a window that exists between the moment you have an instinct to change and your mind killing it. It’s a 5-second window. And it exists for everyone. The first time we try anything new on the track it’s going to feel scary, you just have to trust your skill.

The counting will focus you on the goal or commitment and distract you from the worries, thoughts, and excuses in your mind.
